The local team wishes everybody a safe homeward journey, or, for those who stay for the SOC workshop, a pleasant continuation of their visit to Amsterdam.

It has been our privilege and pleasure to receive so many kind and bright people from all over the world, and to see them engage in discussions and sharing ideas to help shape the future of computing in data intensive science.

We hope to see everybody again in good spirit and health at a future workshop!

Be sure to wear your badge, as security is very strict due to fact that the museum lies in the city centre.

Getting there

See the website of the museum.

It is a 10 minute walk from Metro station Nieuwmarkt; or go to Amsterdam Centraal Station and take the tram, exit at Spui, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal or use the planner on https://en.gvb.nl/

Wednesday morning, 16 October, at 06:45 we will be running through the length of the park and back for a run of about 5km.

Start and finish will be at the east entrance of the Vondelpark on the stadhouderskade.

The nearest public transport options are tram 12, stop at Leidseplein or Rijksmuseum, or metro line 52 south, stop at Vijzelgracht.

People can run at their own pace; because the park is long but narrow there are several opportunities to turn back earlier. We aim to be back at the starting point at 07:15.

HEPiX news bulletin https://hepix2019.nikhef.nl/hepix-news-bulletin/ Wed, 09 Oct 2019 20:54:15 +0000 https://hepix2019.nikhef.nl/?p=525 Continue reading "HEPiX news bulletin"]]> HEPiX is only 4 days away and many people will be starting to pack now. The registration is closed, as well as the abstract submission. Behind the screens the organisers and programmers are feverishly working to cross the t’s and dot the i’s.

For those who want to know what to pack it is a good idea to keep an eye on the weather. It is projected to be a little below the long term average for October, around 15C during the day. Unfortunately it is also going to be typical autumn weather, windy with intense rain showers due to the remaining summer heat in the system. My advice: bring an umbrella and a windproof coat.

We’ll be posting some more local information on the web site as we are drawing nearer the start of the workshop; here are just some notes to take into consideration when planning your stay.

Thanks to our generous sponsor Western Digital we have secured a pre-paid public transport card for all participants, with enough credit to last the week for typical use. So on arrival in The Netherlands, choose the cheapest option to get to your hotel and to Nikhef on Monday.

Registration opens 08:00 hours on Monday 14 October at the WCW Congress Centre. Nearest public transport is either the railway station Amsterdam Science Park or bus stop Science Park Aer (bus 40). You can use several different planners.

Traditionally we’ll have a welcome reception on Monday evening, immediately following the program for the day. Buses will take us from the campus directly into the city; due to time constraints we have to leave at 16:30 hours sharp.

The HEPiX banquet will be held on Wednesday; the location is in the very centre of Amsterdam but exact directions will follow later.

The time table for the workshop is being fleshed out to fit everybody’s presentations; the coffee breaks and lunch breaks are locally served and give us plenty of time for interaction and visiting the tables of our sponsors who generously provided all the food and drinks.

The entire workshop will be recorded, streamed, and can be followed remotely via Vidyo.

Should there be any questions, urgent or otherwise, the local team can be reached by e-mail at hepix-2019autumn-support@hepix.organd by telephone: during office hours call Joan Berger at +31205925169; outside office hours +31205922219. (At all times the emergency services in the Netherlands can be reached by calling 112.)

We’re looking forward to seeing you all in a few days!

End of Early Birds discount https://hepix2019.nikhef.nl/end-of-early-birds-discount/ Tue, 17 Sep 2019 13:25:07 +0000 https://hepix2019.nikhef.nl/?p=463 Continue reading "End of Early Birds discount"]]> HEPiX Autumn 2019 is drawing closer, so it is time to start making plans. Amsterdam awaits you!

If you wish to come but you have not registered yet, please hurry up! The early-birds discount ended on 15 September. The registration will close on 7 October. You can still register at full-price at https://indico.cern.ch/e/hepix-autumn2019/.

Thanks to our gracious sponsors food, drinks, and public transportation are all taken care of. We have something special lined up for the banquet as well, but we’ll keep that a surprise for the moment. And while you are making your travel arrangements, don’t forget to submit an abstract (or two) for the workshop. I’m sure there is plenty to talk about that is interesting for all to hear. Let’s make this a fruitful as well as an enjoyable meeting with plenty of knowledge exchange!

Last of all I want to plug the special interest meeting on Friday afternoon; outside of the official HEPiX program we’ll discuss the end of CREAM support and how to move to ARC instead. If you currently run CREAM and don’t know what to do with it next year, or if you are already running ARC and would like to talk about it, please stick around on the Friday afternoon. I hope to see you all in Amsterdam.

as of today it is possible to register for the HEPiX autumn workshop in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, held from 14th to 18th October 2019.

The workshop will be held at the Amsterdam Science Park Congress Centre and is hosted by Nikhef.

There is a room capacity limit of 150 participants and it is first come, first served, so register soon!

Early registrants also benefit from the ‘early birds’ fee of €200 instead of the full fee of €300. The deadline for early birds registration is 15th september 2019.

Thanks to our generous sponsors we will have a social event on Monday 14th October and a Conference dinner on Wednesday 16th October free of charge. Registrants who wish to bring a partner to the Conference dinner can indicate this on the registration form at an additional charge of €50.

The abstract submission has opened as well and we encourage participants to contribute to the programme.

As a reminder, an ARC-CE workshop is planned for Friday 18th October in the afternoon. And starting Monday 21th October, a Security Operations Centre (SOC) workshop will be held at Nikhef. It is expected that security-related issues will be covered late during the HEPiX workshop to ease participation to both HEPiX and the SOC workshop.

If you have any questions, please contact the local organizing committee (hepix-2019autumn-support@hepix.org). We are looking forward to seeing you in Amsterdam in October!

I am pleased to announce that the HEPiX autumn 2019 workshop will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 14th to 18th October 2019. The workshop will take place at the Amsterdam Science Park Congress Centre, hosted by Nikhef, the Dutch national institute for subatomic physics. Mark your calendars!

We are looking forward to a productive and informative meeting, and we encourage previous and new participants to submit abstracts and contribute to the programme.

Information about the logistics is already available under
https://indico.cern.ch/e/hepix-autumn2019/

The registration and abstract submission will open soon; a short message will be sent as soon as you can register and submit abstracts.

While not part of the official HEPiX programme, I should like to point out that on Friday 18th October in the afternoon, a workshop on the ARC-CE is planned. Starting Monday 21th October, a Security Operations Centre (SOC) workshop will be held; it is expected that security-related issues will be covered late during the HEPiX workshop to ease participation to both HEPiX and the SOC workshop.

HEPiX workshops have been held regularly since 1991 to bring together worldwide Information Technology staff, physicists and managers from High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics and other science laboratories, institutes and universities such as BNL, CERN, DESY, FNAL, IN2P3, INFN, JLAB, KEK, NIKHEF, PIC, RAL, SLAC, TRIUMF and many other labs and universities.
